Today we're sharing one of our favourite (and super easy) DIY face mask recipes which features ingredients a lot of you may already have in your pantry, including the superfood powerhouse ingredient from Mother Nature, Cacao. This mask feeds your skin with SO much nutritious goodness - lets take a look at some of the ingredients and their benefits before we get to the recipe.
First up we have the 'food of the gods', Cacao. Packed with an incredible amount of antioxidants which protect our cellls from premature aging as well as free radicals / environmental damage, vitamins, and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and a ton of iron (the highest plant based source); it's also a potent anti-inflammatory, soothing irritated skin, as well as being a natural mood enhancer and anti-depressant.
Next we have Avocado; loaded with healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and another nutrient rich superfood which does wonders for both your insides and outside! This mighty fruit has so many amazing benefits for the skin - it's nourishing, regenerating, anti-inflammatory and hydrating, and also helps to soften and moisturise the skin.
Bananas are fantastic natural mositurisers and exfoliators, and also help to balance the skin. They are rich in potassium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamins, as well as amino acids, and have been referred to as nature's botox. Even the skin/peel offers numerous benefits!
Last, but not least is the ancient Asian brew Green Tea with its potent antioxidant content which helps prevent free radical / environmental damage. The catechin EGCG found in green tea has been shown in research to reactivate dying skin cells. It also helps to fight inflammation and bacteria, reduce the production of sebum, treat mild to moderate acne, and tannins found in green tea act as an astringent which helps to shrink pores.
And so to the recipe - enjoy!
1 tbsp raw organic cacao powder
1 tbsp fresh avocado, mashed
1/2 banana, mashed
Steeped organic green tea, cooled
Mix the cacao powder, avocado and banana together, then stir in the tea a tiny bit at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
Generously apply the mixture to the face and neck; lay back and relax!
Gently wash the mask off after 10-20 minutes using a soft wash cloth and warm water. Follow with face oil / balm of your choice.
Patch test prior to using if you think any of the ingredients may potentially irritate your skin.
