Spot Light On: Pomegranate

Pomegranate Seeds

Often referred to as “nature’s power fruit”, pomegranates have been used both as medicinal remedies and beauty treatments for centuries.  Pomegranate seed oil comes from the seed of the fruit of the Punica granatum, a deciduous, fruit-bearing shrub.

Rich in vitamins and minerals, and packed with antioxidants, Pomegranate oil deeply nourishes the skin, minimising fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improving the skin’s overall elasticity.  It also deeply penetrates the dermis, hydrating the skin and supplying long lasting moisture.

Pomegranate seeds are the only known botanical source of the essential fatty acid Punicic Acid (also known as Omega 5).  As Omega 5 has strong anti-inflammatory properties, Pomegranate oil is fabulous in aiding in skin repair, reducing skin inflammation and helping skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis as rosacea.

Pomegranate oil is packed full of natural antioxidants - Omega 5, Ellagic Acid and Vitamin C, all fight against free radicals that can damage our healthy cells and lead to premature signs of ageing.  These antioxidants also stimulate collagen production as well as reducing collagen breakdown, resulting in plumper, firmer looking skin.

In addition, Pomegranate oil stimulates the creation of 'keratinocytes' (the large cells seen in our skin’s outer layers), promoting regeneration of the epidermis.  This helps skin retain its youthful appearance by creating new skin cells.

This remarkable and highly prized oil, which is wonderful for all skin types, can be found in our ‘Rejuvenating' facial oil and our upcoming ‘Golden’ face balm (due for release this April).
